Welcome to the Exeter Anthology
Welcome to the Exeter Anthology of Old English Poetry, which has been designed and produced by evellum.net.
This digital edition brings together high-resolution facsimile images of the complete manuscript known formally as Exeter, Dean and Chapter MS 3501 (commonly referred to in the past as the Exeter Book) and Bernard J Muir’s revised Third Edition of the Exeter Anthology of Old English Poetry (Evellum Digital Publishing, 2024).
This digital edition advances our understanding and experience of this most important Anglo-Saxon manuscript in many ways. It consists of high-resolution facsimile images of the manuscript, an historical and codicological introduction, and a comprehensive bibliography. Magnification tools allow for extremely close scrutiny of the manuscript and its many alterations and corrections. Audio and video materials offer readings of a selection of poems in both Old and Modern English, as well as a brief history of the Exeter Anthology.
The rule of thumb for exploring the features and structure of the digital edition is to click on anything and everything that looks like a link; clicking on an image generally leads to a higher resolution image of the same page. There is, however, an illustrated “How to Use” feature available for those seeking more structured support.
